I remember Metalock repairing a big rolling machine at the factory where I was an apprentice over 50 years ago. They did an excellent job of "cross-stitching".

NELPG had the J27 done some time back, but it did ultimately fail again, and they are on to a replacement cylinder block now.

Not to say that stitching does work on steam locomotives, just that in that case, the frame stretcher nature of inside cylinders puts a lot of extra load in there.

Paul.

I couldn't agree more with Martin as far as metalock services are concerned, I've had an aermotor engine stitched back together after the main casting got split, it has lived to tell the tale.

Yes i remember that ! this is a outside right hand cylinder. the sister loco had the same problem a few years ago and Matalock stitched that for them. They are Like the J27 having new cylinders fitted. We are having an NDT inspection done then Metalock will hopefully carry out the necessary work.
Karl.
