A 10" flywheel would be perfect, should look right on the engine and it's the biggest I could get on my lathe, provided it fits in the gap.

Do You not fancy "loading up" the pulley that's on it now to turn it into a flywheel, nice hefty steel ring round the outside? Just a thought!

I did wonder if the current pulley could be modified to form a pattern for a flywheel. There is a foundry just down the road who would have no trouble knocking up a flywheel for me.

It would look great to have a flywheel with pretty much the same shape as the original pulley, just a heavier rim.

That said, that will be a far more expensive route to go than finding something ready made. I'm trying to keep the cost of this project sensible, but if nothing suitable turns up it's an option.

Hi Phill,
I'll get you a photo as soon as I can, probably Friday. Although I'm thinking that a bigger diameter flywheel would be better for your project.
Have you seen this on the tube?

Just to prove there's nothing new under the sun!

You can probably work out what diameter his flywheel is from freezing the vid and comparing to the main casting.

Good grief, you're right - here's another https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GOgVACpN79k I like the gas fitting combustion chamber on that one.

Told you you should have done a 'Systeme Loyal' job Phill - at least it would be something different then!

Yeah Iíd seen those, but Iím quite happy to keep it simple and modify later if need be. Doesnít want a flywheel too big, itís not so substantial as it looks - half the size of a 3/4hp Ideal.

Yet another, this time with a distinctly undersized looking flywheel.

Potentially but it looks a bit spindly! RDG do a number of small flywheels but none quite fit the bill.
