Default Haddenham Steam Rally 9th & 10th September

Gentlemen,

Haddenham Steam Rally is on this weekend, one of the better Rally's in our area, a good stationary engine section and a good selection of all other area's on show. The Rally has been managed by one family since day one and is very well attended by the public.
I will be there from Thursday so come and say hello.

Arrived at the rally site at 11:30 today to find large parts of the engine line roped off for friends etc enough space for up to ten engines, I reckon this practice should be banned as anybody who can't arrive before tomorrow night or Saturday morning is going to struggle to find a spot. Does this happen at other shows, I don't mind saving a space for a friend but doing it en masse is not fair.
Spent the afternoon watching everything turn up, I enjoy watching the tractors and trucks pushing the traction engines onto the field having pulled them off the artic trailers.

Saving a space for a friend is one thing, and like you I'm happy to do it, but long lengths of the line reserved isn't right, or fair.
Whats the field like, I was going to do a local one on sunday (still may if weather is ok) but 45mph SW with heavy rain is not great, particularly as it is in support of regatta

Neil.

The ground is good, can get mucky in bad weather but only where vehicles go. Have a freshly made fruit cake to go with tea should you come

Surely the event organisers layout who's going where?, can't speak for Steam rallies, but when I was involved in organising model railway exhibitions at the NEC we would clearly mark out "plots" for each exhibitor, trader etc. and that's where they went!.

Christ on a crutch don't open that can of worms.......

I've been to rallies where people get given a "peg" and all you end up with is those that know better moving their alloted peg elsewhere so they can be with their mates, then with the no shows leaving gaps everywhere it just turns into a bun fight...

I don't mind saving a space but not enough for a engine line up...

we did put a rope up to save our spaces the other week as parking was a bit of a issue....

There was also the opposite of overcrowding where people wanted to be next/near to each other and the full pen wasn't used and you had engine on top of one another.

Absolutely. No good for the paying punters and makes the line up look shabby
