Default Lister G1

Well the Lister D was feeling a little lonely on its own in the garage, so I bought it a friend

No pics yet but it is a Rad cooled G1 1941 spent its life running a compressor in a quarry.

Thats the plan if I get this one running she has a spark but is lacking compression stuck piston rings by the looks of it. She has had 2 frost repairs done in the very distant past

Do you fancy bringing it along to show with Eddie's G-type? they are seldom seen engines, so would look most impressive to have two different versions side by side.

Paul.

Thanks for the offer Paul but due to my health problems last year, (2 heart attacks in 3 days at the age of 26 ) she has got to stay in the shed and even the smaller stuff is only getting 1 outing this year hope to be back on form next year tho (I am almost there). it would be great to see the 2 models together. So you never know!

Thanks John

Had a pair of G1's one was ex cement mixer and a bit ropey, had a split manifold and was seized and the other was found in a carpentry shop where it ran a saw, that was a tidy example. Also had a hopper cooled G2, did like to drink fuel that did. 1938 I believe and was later supplied by the government to replace engines lost on the east coast in '53 after the "Great flood"

I've had four of these in the past.

1. 1936 G2 basket case. Went to the Anson Museum untouched.
2.1940 G1. Boat engine. Cracked block and damaged manifold. Restored by a friend and sold on.
3. 1944 G2H. Bought from Tatton Park. Fabricated manifold with no hot-spot, inlet side used to freeze up. Otherwise OK. Sold on at Tatton Park.
4. 1947 GK2. Manifold missing and magneto US. Fabricated a manifold to run on just petrol and got the mag rewound. One of my favourite engines, ran like a clock. Sold to the late Bill Swingler.

The manifolds are definitely the "Achilles Heel" of these engines!!
