As for fuel, 50/50 mix of petrol and heating oil will be great. It doesn't need to be running as hot. However, the problem from the start has been a dodgy mag. Clearly the winding is ok, so get the magnets re-magnetised and your problems will go away. A weak spark will ignite petrol but it will be drowned out on paraffin/kero/heating oil. Changing the points on the igniter will help, but it's not the solution.

OK so next question is ........

Anyone know someone who can recharge the magnets?

Hopefully somebody local to you can recommend a local magneto repairer, but you can always look in the back pages of a recent Stationary Engine magazine; there's generally 2 or 3 that advertise in there.

I'd prefer someone local as I don't really want to risk losing it in the post because I can guess they will be as rare as hens teeth. I'd also like to see how they do it just out of interest. I'll do the points first then look at getting the magnets done.

Matt hasn't logged on here since Feb. Suggest you contact through facebook page or if you go down to the Laughton Cuckoo fair in a couple of weeks, you should find him hawking his wares there.
