Default Malpas Yesteryear Rally 2016

Better late than never, here are a few photos I took at this year’s Malpas Yesteryear Rally. Once again, the weather was kind to the show and there was a good turn-out of exhibits, and lots of spectators too. I wasn’t exhibiting there this year, so it made a nice change to be able to wander round the show and have time to see all the exhibits, and have a chat with some friends. Hope you like the short selection of photos:

Glad you liked them Peter (there's even a Shanks in there for Martin Paff), I took quite a few more photos but they were spoilt by cluttered backgrounds, people's legs, etc. They usually don't have parking or camping in the centre double row pen (apart from a few day-only exhibitors), but I've noticed a few vehicles creeping in there in recent years, and I think some people even pitched tents in there this year. I really hope they sort this out and put it back to how it was.

Thanks, don't worry, the 2017 rally season will be here before we know it. Let's hope it's another good one.

Thanks. No 7 is a 2hp 1922 Grigg, made by Grigg Ltd. Winchester Works, Twickenham (according to the rally info sheet).

Spot on with the engine ID, Steve; top of the class for that one! The photos were taken with that Canon 6D I bought the other year (with Canon 24-105 IS L lens). Some magazine reviews might say it lacks a few features compared to a 5D, but it takes lovely looking photos, and that's what counts in my view.

Well I did put an information request in SEM recently for a link between Grigg and Stuart Turner. ST produced an engine very similar to the Grigg pre-WW1 for Drayton motorcycles it looks like Grigg, didn't know if Grigg bought the Drayton left overs after the war.

Good glass to start with, and Canon full frame is hard to beat, I remember my EOS 1D (MkII N & Ds Mk II ) days... don't miss lugging them about though....

Cheers, Steve

I think Grigg was another example of the short-lived scooter craze just post WWI. Not to say they didn't use a bought-in engine of course and it really is very similar to the Stuart built Dayton.
