Default Lister L shooting flames

Hello guys.

had my lister l running at nuenen all weekend.
but sundaynight she suddenly died out.
there was a massive bang with bleu flames shooting out of the carb and exhaust

since then i can,t get it started.all that happens is one big bang!

i tried 4 different plugs and cleaned out the carb.
get a blue spark with almost every plug.

timing seems ok as the points open just before tdc.

i,m lost at this point

regards Brian

yes compression is still very good.
when cranking slowly the intake sucks and the exhaust blows just as it should.

valves don,t leak either

It sounds a bit like fuel starvation; my Lister M bangs very loudly as the fuel runs out. Try cleaning the carb jet out...

Any chance the timing has shifted somehow? Points short or other mag fault.

i thought it could be a fuel issue to.
but i cleaned the entire carb out.
the jet is clear.

maybe it,s the mag but a first sight everything looks ok.
it has the orginal ml on it

regards Brian

might be the condenser. a typical issue with the lucas mags (i realise your mag is another make, but the issue is still relevent) is that as the condenser begins to fail, it mucks up the timing, so whenever you check the points, its spot on, but the actual spark time changes, causing bangs through the intake and exhaust due to being off time. I've seen it a few times with Lisster A's and D's, leads to much head scratching.

Paul.
