and kev get the tube hot
you have to get tube hot enough
then adjust the gas supply very small amounts.

Thanks very much for your guidance Roger - It will all prove very useful when I get the gas supplies connected up and try bringing the old girl back to life again.

The new piston rings are all gapped and fitted now, so I can start the reassembly in earnest. Shouldn't take long as there are not many parts to the engine, and its small size means you can achieve a lot in a short space of time.

All going to plan I hope to be in a position to try starting the engine for the first time in 40+ years in the next week or so.

Default Demand Valve Success

I recently acquired a little 1/2hp Robinson X Type hot tube gas engine, and got it running reasonably well without a demand valve.



Yesterday I thought I would have a go at running the engine my homemade demand valve fitted. The results were pleasing to say the least, and the engine was running the best it has ever run in my ownership.

The demand valve was made by converting an old Calor gas regulator to work in reverse, as detailed in nickh's thread (http://www.stationary-engine.net/for...ad.php?t=31609).
