Default Petter PU8

I was looking at this steerable propulsion unit (missing propeller) yesterday which I was assured by the owner was ex-WD. I was always told that similar units driven by Petter PU8 universal engine units as featured in the attached thread were used to power pontoon and similar boats by the Royal Engineers during the war. Can anyone confirm that the Petter is the correct unit?
