Shame they don't try as hard when it comes to other just as important tasks.

Huh?

The drivers were found to be driving otherwise in accordance with their licence, fined 100 and given three points on their licence.

I think that's Police speak for not having trailer on your license, didn't they take that off the driving license a few years ago and now you have to take a trailer test ??

Interesting that amongst the cluster of trumped up and utterly trivial charges, only one was actually towing over his plated weight - surprised it was not more...

Depends on the weights/size of the trailer and the vehicle combo also when you passed.

Licences issued from 1 January 1997
If you passed your car driving test on or after 1 January 1997 you can:

drive a car or van up to 3,500kg maximum authorised mass (MAM) towing a trailer of up to 750kg MAM
tow a trailer over 750kg MAM as long as the combined MAM of the trailer and towing vehicle is no more than 3,500kg

Five vehicles towing caravans or trailers were found to have no extendable mirrors fitted and were fine 50.
Is that mandatory even if your trailer/load doesn't obscure your rear vision?

e.g. I sometimes tow a car trailer with a car on it - but I can see perfectly well behind me without extended mirrors.
