Might be useful for some of us:

I would take the information on there with a large pinch of salt. I have had a brief flick through and some of it is just plain wrong, whereas some parts leave out large parts of the requirements or appear to be very vague.

I only noticed one error, but I was looking for a specific item (side marker lights) not at the whole thing, but I will contact Hella to see what they have to say about it.

Thanks for the heads-up.

Peter

Edit: The error I saw was my interpretation of the picture, not the document.

It shows a minimum of 600mm between headlights, which I mis-read. In fact the drawing is correct.

There appears to be a total lack of any mention of the required angles of visibility of each lamp, which is a big part of ECE reg 48. Some of the measurements on the drawings etc also conflict with the requirements of Reg48.

Here's the UNECE directive:

https://www.unece.org/fileadmin/DAM/...13/R048r9e.pdf

Some of the lights in the Hella document have a Geometric viewing Angle, but not all.

No response from Hella as yet, but Xmas week probably isn't the best time for them to respond.

Typical!!
The Lords Prayer contains 66 words.
Winston Churchill's "This is Your Victory" speech contains 75 words.
The Gettysburg Address contains 272 words.
The American Declaration of Independence Speech contains 1320 words.
The rules for fitting lights to vehicles extends to 35 PAGES!!!

and (according to the original joke!!) The EEC directive for the Importation of Ground Nuts from Non-EEC countries contains almost 73,000 words!!!!

35 pages that's not much for a EEC regulation. Some of the type approval documents we deal with extend into the hundreds of pages.

I cant complain too much though. It keeps me in a job and helps to pay the mortgage and it pays for my collection of engines

As we are talking lighting is it a legal requirement to have the rear fog lights go off when towing, the last couple of weeks I've been driving in a lot of day and night fog and last week I realised that the fog light wasn't working even though the dash said it was so I took the socket apart, first mistake, two hours to put it back together, nine wires, different colours than standard and a right pain to re assemble. The problem was the switch was sticking so that when you pulled the plug no fog lights.
Having rebuilt the socket I plugged in the trailer lead and fog light goes off, pull the plug it stays off, sharp tap with plastic mallet lights back on so now I keep mallet handy
I want to link out the switch, is that allowed.
