Default Hornsby 1905-Type Oil Engine.

I'm sorry that nobody (who didn't already know) wanted to have a guess at what this is, or what it belongs to...

You mean my answer was incorrect? I was told that in good faith as well.

Whatever it is it looks heavy, we will await with baited breath!

Well, the casting says R Hornsby, Grantham, so my guess is it's a ........ Drum roll ..... Crossley. Seriously nice engine, Martin , Santa must have paid a visit to Paff towers early this year, not that I'm jealous, or anything.

Can't wait to see more !

Default At Last...

Well, the poor thing has sat in the trailer for the last week, waiting for me, time and weather to get it unloaded. Once again Michael (The Crank Monkey) and Dan (DantheTangye) helped, and without them I couldn't have managed.

With the trailer reversed up to the engine shed path, we reviewed the problem.

Just like the 10IP, it was a tight squeeze and needed to come out a little at a time.

With the trailer tipped up, we eased it out...

...eventually getting it free so that it could lowered to a safer height!

Once on the ground we oiled and checked everything that seemed to matter, then put a propane torch under the bulb. After about 12 mins we pulled on the flywheel, and off it went - the wrong way! A couple of attempts got it running the right way... Yay!!!

One happy grin...

...and the engine plate.

Video to follow later.

3hp I believe Roger, although you can never be sure with these things. I shall be asking Ray what he has on record when I remember, although I may already know...
