Default Lister CS breather

simply out of interest, did all of the lister cs versions leave the factory with a crankshaft breather elbow? I seem to see so many with the breather fitted to the crankcase door without the elbow, I know my cs 6/1 was made in 48' and I know of it's history since the late 50s' and there has been no breather elbow during all that time,
If they were all produced with the elbow why remove them?

I know that war time engines were produced without the elbow (metal shortages), I'm not sure how long after the war this carried on.
