Default Timing a BSA power unit 320cc

Good Afternoon Gentlemen,
I have now got this engine to the point were the mag is fitted a coupling has been made and fits. What I needs is advice as to setting the timing. For the life of me I can not see a TDC mark on the crank, flywheel or any where on the engine. Can't even see the piston with the plug out as its side valve. The crank on the opposite side to the flywheel has a key way but that's about it.
Hopefully some one knows.
Chris.

The timing for the magneto is discussed in the manual for this engine which is here:-
