Default lucas rs1 problem

hi i have a lucas rs1 magneto which i have just replaced the bearings points and condenser. it gives of a descent spark but its lyk the whole mag body is live because you get a shock when your spinning it by hand and touching the ht lead. should really do that but has anyone got any advice on what the problem could be. regards Darren

If you have the body in your hand and you are touching the HT lead you will get a shock as the magneto body acts as one of the wires otherwise the magneto wouldnt work.

You could try not touching the ht lead, they tend to give a shock

The body of the mag is the earth that the leads shorts to (sparks)
If you want to test it while holding the mag you need the HT lead to short to the magneto body without you touching the end of the lead, so hold it an inch or three away from the end and maintain an ⅛" gap for the spark to jump.

Neil.

PS: shocking yourself while testing is easy to do, makes you jump a bit but that's all, however touching the top of plug and the engine while it's running will give you a proper shock
