No too much compression is not possible unless you skimmed half the head off
I think it,s a fuel problem.

Because the mag works fine on another engine

hi pete there s know black smoke and i have tryed the the mixture wheel in diffrant posions and theres two possions run and stop which is stamp in the wheel and will only run when i put the wheel to run

Well try some of these;
set the tappet Clarence to .020in
use a Loge BBl spark plug or equivalent.
fuel line blockage

Is the float floating realy well?
If it is half full of water or fuel it might only be floating 'gently' and the vibration from the engine may un-seat the needle and let in too much fuel and cause it to flood.
Just an idea

It might be worth a blow out with an air line.

cheers for the replay

i have tryed that this afternoon and totaly stripped and re-cleaned the carb and anual float

wondering if the the needle could worn down if its possible

take the float out and set the fuel level manually on the tap

Just try undoing the wheel some more Ant, you may have to press the little plunger down, it might give it more fuel. What was the correct setting 60 odd years ago might not be the same now, wear and tear takes its toll!
