Hi Dan,
I have measured the gap in the part of the bore that is most worn against the worn part of the piston and I have 3.9 thou, this sounds small to me.
I have cleaned the grooves, gapped and fitted the rings and they are free to move when a steel rule is put across the side of the piston.

cheers for all your help guiding me guys.

Lee

There you go! Nothing to worry about - put it together and enjoy it...

I am intrigued by one little thing, however... How did you measure 3.9 thou? I don't think I've ever seen a 0.9 thou feeler gauge (that would be very thin!). Is it coincidence that is 0.1mm?

Hi Martin,

It was actually a 0.1mm feeler gauge, I translated it to old money!

I do have one more question, can anyone help and tell me which way the crank goes round? Unfortunately I did not look when I removed it!

Am I guessing right that the side of the bronze big end bush which is flush with the conrod faces against the crankshaft end and the protruding side faces the starting handle end?

After I have gained this info I plan to start reassembling.

Cheers
Lee

Thanks Pete,
I will hopefully get some time in the workshop tonight.
