Initially the puller felt like it was approaching its maximum load but the gear signaled its movement with a thud. The first pull had it here..

It was soon off

The big surprise for me was the badly damaged rear face. The ends of the teeth are very badly distorted.

I definitely think that the damage at the back was causing a lot of noise.

The best bit is that the main bearing has not been affected at all.

I will be weighing up the options for making the standard gear fit the undersized crankshaft. I am very happy to the manky gear off at last!

Couldn't resist putting a picture of Dan while working away on getting the gear off.

Dan.
Is the bottom gear the oil pump gear, seems to have matching damage to the crankshaft gear.
