its always best to adjust on the timing gear at the bottom as the shafts harder and too much adjusting on the mag shaft can wear it down, then the timing will keep shifting cause the cog wont tighten properly.
lister d pet/tvo, petter ava1, lister diesel. some sort of rusty hammer mill.

Thank you very much for all the replies, I've set the timing as best I can, all I have to do now is fit the petrol tank fill it and some oil in the engine, then start it. No doubt there'll be more questions. And thanks again.
