Potentially that's an idea Phill, until you come to put the piston and rod in the bore before lowering it onto the crankcase... then how do you get the lump of wood out? :confused:

You put the lump of wood in there whilst checking the ring gap....


Make it a snug fit and you can push the rings down without them going past it - as for final assembly, you takes yer chances!
