Yes there is (was), I was very happy with the way the oil was all over the bearing surfaces as I hadn't ran the engine before I started stripping it down.
There is however signs of piston damage at some point as it looks as if it has had a partial seizure, bore is spot on so I don't think I shall be worrying to much about replacing the piston.

Petter A1 has been having a "fettle" in the shed these last few weeks and now looks like this...

Been into the shed early on tonight and fitted the mag, carb and air cleaner, all I have to do now is clean up the last of the brass work, fit the governor arm and bits, check the mag timing, touch in a few nuts and bolts, add transfers and fill with oil and she is finished, well, almost...

Another nearly finished Rob, good to see one that still has the air cleaner as well. Were they a standard fitment as mine has the timing case bracket but a lot don't even have that, unless they were 'ditched' at overhaul time? I do know of a couple of air cleaners lurking in a hedgerow though...........

Pete.

Both the Burgess and Volkes air cleaners were an option with Petter A and A1 engines Pete so if you have the bracket then it's been removed and lost, no bracket and chances are it never had anything on it. Mine had the oil bath Burgess as it was sold to be fitted to the sawbench.

Petter A1 sitting nicely in the shed now but the Arun bench it self is still earning it's keep! Have managed to find a replacement blade for it as the one in the saw at the moment is a little rough, teeth are getting worn down, 1 is missing and it is also a little "egg" shaped.

While waiting for the blade I made up a new set of guide blocks for the blade, that should help no end.

Now to look into making a log splitting attachment to go on to the set...

Never did grt round to making a log splitter for the sawbench but I did make a trolley for the Petter A1 and Boulton & Paul pump as I thought they looked rather nice as a "set"
