I'll see your wooden spoon and raise you a Kenwood Chefette!

Seriously, are my ramblings that unintelligible? I recall with some pain a comment from a fellow club member regarding an SEM article I had written about the unusual 'Systeme Loyal' engine - "What was all that c**p about?".

Well I've logged in now and will have a look when time permits. Have had to curtail most extraneous activity for a few months while family members have been ill.

10W/cubic inch is a very rough guide indeed. The actual figure depends on so many variables, not least of which is that within reason it is proportional to speed. Others, such as eddy current loss and hysteresis loss in the iron, are dependent on construction and quality of iron, so the results achieved by a fast running, well engineered commercial unit may exceed those of a design suitable for the hobbyist engineer to build. All dynamos and motors fundamentally obey the same equations, so the difference between a modern, compact, cool-running machine and an older, larger, lossier one are in the fine details of construction.

Thanks Lucien, sorry to hear the reason for your absence - hope things are moving in the right direction.
