Just goes to prove Land Rovers do a proper job, if it had been any other make of 4x4, just a couple of cars either side would have been damaged

I was amazed how steep the banking is at the top of the bowl, you need to hang on to the Armco to stay upright

Providing safety cover/comms for one of Rovers 24 hour record attempts...

I wonder, Phill, if your Landie was not actually insured while on something that is an obvious race track ? Most policies exclude this.

Itís on a classic policy which covers all sorts of things, green laning among them. Driving on track is covered, provided the vehicle is not being used in competition.

I have been around the banking at MIRA a few times when we resurfaced it in a loaded Foden eight wheeler following a Bomag roller. Now that was scary, I could have cracked walnuts between my ar*e cheeks!

Yes, I spent hours ringing round insurance companies last year. Not so easy getting decent cover on a classic, at a sensible price, which also earns NCB if you're under 25 and which gives you a sensible mileage limit for the year.

Apparently there were 1200 vehicles all in, more than double my estimate!

Spotted a Minerva Land Rover in the line-up

What video camera do you use Phill?

Plenty to do with the Land Rover pre rally season, nearly time for an engine oil change and the transmission units too. I hope to spend a little less time under the vehicle this year now that it's no longer in daily use, we'll see what happens.

It proved a useful machine in the snow last week at least:

One of the jobs to be tackled is replacing the starter motor, the original packed up last year and the replacement lasted two months! I've now re-built the original to re-fit. The fault turned out to be a short between the field windings and frame bolts, they had been arcing nicely at the brush carrier end!

I now have a trailer which I intend to use for the lighting plant, it's really too heavy for the floor in the Rover. The trailer has a very sturdy chassis, but the builder was no carpenter and I intend to remove the body, add some outriggers and fit a flat deck.

Plenty of work to do when the weather improves and daylight hours increase..
