Default Cornish Steam Fair (West Of England) 2017

1st day of the West of England went without a hitch, few heavy showers but everything else went well.
One disappointment was how much the show has been cut down, cost saving exercise but the rally was once known for being the largest in Cornwall but now it seems less than half the size it used to be, Dorset changing it's dates have put a few people off doing this one the week before.
But each section has had to have a cut in numbers (Just over 80 Stationary Engine from what used to be 100-150, though it would seem cars got away with it. Sadly I don't think we will see a return of the glory days from when it was up St Agnes, the numbers of steams and attractions like the wall of death is now a distant memory and probably best I adopt the new name of the Cornish Steam Fair, though that doesn't really suite as I couldn't see the steam driven fair it once had.

Anyways enough of me moaning about how things used to be better in the old days.... at least I didn't need to be pulled in and out like St Agnes....

To the Photos!

I don't think I mentioned I took my Stuart H1 ran all day without fault, made a little mess out of the exhaust but apart from that it ran nice and warm with about 500W of load, if I picked it up to 50v I would have pulled 1kw from the bulbs but for the sake of my neighbours I stuck to a healthy tick over....

A few which grabbed my attention.

Chris Harper's Series 1 Petter M was very nice, would love to find one of these not likely to happen but we live in hope...

You don't see too many Hartop FE's about, fitted with a Stuart P3 carb for the keen eyed.

ABC APU Mk2 which was for sale (might have sold... not to me...)

Lovely running Stover, it is owned by the same chap who has my grandfathers tear drop flywheel'ed CT.

Nice Tangye

And another.

This ran lovely though I'm not sure what it is, I have a program in the car...

And some hot air for Nick...

And the rest are here.

Tomorrow should see a few more engines turning up so will update them later. Might be able to do a video as I don't have the kids tomorrow....

Cheers, Steve

Shame the show wasn't all that it used to be but glad to hear the H1 has proved itself under rally conditions. Has the exhaust cleaned up a bit now it's had a good extended run?

Is that APU the one Danpt had?

Could be about the ABC, but not sure.

The exhaust....no, I'm not sure if it is getting in through fuel/water pump housing as it seems to be dropping, but at least it isn't spitting it into the air and over everyone...

Thanks for posting the pictures, it's ironic that Tangye moved to Birmingham form Cornwall and now their engines are on display back in Cornwall
I thought the last picture was familiar, I saw it at South Cerney...

No problems, I've added a few more engines to the album for today.
