Default Just acquired a pair of Lister L's

Hello Folks,

Having dusted off my Lister D for the first time in a while recently the bug bit me again and I noticed an local ad for a Lister L. It turned out there were two as the seller needed the space and wanted them both to go as a pair, so I came home with these!

Serial No. 35217
Spec 75L
HP 5
RPM 450

And also:

Serial No. 65424
Spec 82L
HP 6
RPM 500

Both need to be taken apart and cleaned. So far I have found the spec 75L has a seized governor and fuel/oil pump, a previously welded and cracked crankcase breather flange, a later magneto and a crack in the edge of top big end shell. The spec 82L all seems to be free, might be in original paint but seems someone has started stripping the paint from the head, cracked Bakelite HT lead connector on the CK1 magneto.

Both need the water pipe connections, there are two fuel tanks, one exhaust and a starting handle but I don't think it is the correct one.

Being new to this hobby I'd be interested in any comments on the engines or advice.

Thanks.

Hi Paul,

Great find! Both look to be original paint, or at least, very very old (beautifully aged) paint.

The Handle looks like the style of the JP handles (but the JP handle is much bigger). The exhaust is the correct type for the Later engine of the two, not sure about the earlier one.

Paul.

Hi Mike, Thanks I'm pretty pleased with them. Yes it would be good to compare notes and try to hook up at some point, I'm just down the road from Meldrum in Methlick. Cheers, Paul.

Default Lister L dates

Thanks to Doreen Edgington I now know that the earlier engine was originally supplied on 26th May 1923, the later one on 29th July 1927 and that both were supplied to the same person - J. Addison of Keith, Banffshire. So in a way it's nice that they are still together as a pair.
