Default Wiston Steam Rally 2018

I took a trip to Wiston, near Steyning today for the steam rally which has been held there the last few years. A relatively new event, now in it's seventh year but growing in scale and quality all the while - I shall certainly try and book in for next year.

The stationary engine are displayed in their own pen away from the camping area, there were plenty of the usual makes well displayed but these three engines caught my interest.

C. 1906 1/2hp gas engine, "The Morton" built by Keighley Engineering.

c.1928-1930 Vermorel V3 of 4HP.

1923 Lister A type, 5th production engine.

Away from the engine pen and displayed on the Horsham Historics stand was this Stuart Turner generator.

There was an excellent selection of vehicles, the display of buses and commercials being particularly impressive. Plenty for the steam enthusiast too, if hot fog is your thing..

Less than half the vintage buses on show:

Not a great deal of interest on the autojumble stalls but I did pick up a good quality Shore tester and a Mercer 2" micrometer for little money.

An excellent day out, but very hot - the ambient air temp was showing at 30'c driving home and the on site Paramedics were kept very busy.

Phill.
