Lightbulb Ruston 6PB Restoration

Hi all,

I made a start on my Ruston & Hornsby 6PB today. It's just a "Cosmetic restoration" really as it only needs a few bits replacing/repairing and some paint.

I started by removing the fuel tank. This had been badly repaired at some point with some sort of sealant being goobered all over the bottom and sides of the tank. Upon removing a large patch of this it became apparent that it has been soldered up before and a large hole of about 3mm square appeared along with a few others. I think it is beyond what sealant can do so I will either source a replacement or have it repaired. I would be interested to know peoples experiences/advice of this?

I then removed the carburettor and with a rotary wire brush stripped all the paint off it. What ever paint was put on the engine when it was last restored is extremely well stuck and is putting up a fight! I shall buy some paint stripper as soon as I can and that will make things a little easier for me.

All the best,

Phill.
