I believe these taps are only made in one bore. Because you have the screw-together version, replace the cork washer only. Some are riveted together and it's easier to just replace the whole core.

Don't forget that there is a physical maximum that the pump can draw above the water level, and a foot valve makes no difference. As soon as the water column starts cavitating the pumping will stop....
