I've seen Phillip's trolley and it's the same size as the one under my 4hp engine. They are big heavy trollies, about 100 parts to them when you count up the amount of castings and brackets used as...

It's not original then, so without seeing and measuring what you have there's not really a lot anyone can offer.

Originally it would be 1/4" steel pipe screwed into a fitting that's rivetted and...

If it's original it will be 1/4" pipe with an NPT thread on the ends, but BSP will do the job ok.

1/4" pipe is just over 1/2" outside diameter.

My 21hp Tangye goes at roughly 2 tons. It sits on 6 tons of concrete, most of which is in the ground (iceberg effect). That's solid enough for running light, and those who've see it running will have...

Oakley in the sunshine, I hope they arrange for it to happen next time as well!

It's a good idea to knock the corners off, it really tidies the block. I prefer to use a quarter section of pipe to give a scollop.

Thomas Guppy was given the job of designing SS Great Britain as he had good experience (one other ship I think!) of building in iron. I don't doubt Brunel was involved and I'm sure had worthy input....

Surely your wood-yard-owning friend should be able tell which is best?!

Brunel deserves the credit for building SS Great Britain and using iron, but few realise that he never designed the hull.
