Best thing is to take it out and measure what you have got. Needs to come out anyway if you want to change the rings. It may not be the original piston so difficult to tell. Gives you chance to measure the piston and bore properly as well to check for wear, it may be already bored oversize.

stripped down the d
40+thou Gap on rings ,white metal on big end bearing shot , Think I bought a pup
I need a conrod with the oil dipper and +020 rings for the piston which feel ok in the bore
its +020 stamped on the piston
and I think it will live again

No, you bought an old engine which has the sort of wear you would expect from a long and tough working life.

The big end is a replaceable bush btw and they crop up on ebay from time to time - I'm not getting into the debate as to whether the modern unlined bronze replacements are any good!

thanks Windrush
followed your link cant make up my mind wether to rebore to +030 or take a chance on +020 seems to me there is very little play in the piston when its in the barrel the old rings don't seem right to have that much play

The only D I have ever owned had had the dipper replaced with a bolt filed to shape.

+ .026" is most of the way to + .30" which is where i'd want it bored.

Neil. :)
