Why not !! Because the government can't even manage to fix a few pot holes in our roads with the VED and fuel tax they receive, never mind a whole new infrastructure system.

Presumably allowing deviations for overtaking, parking at the side of the road/retail outlet, and of course up your driveway and into your garage (I know the latter doesn't apply for anyone on this forum as the garage is full of engines already ).

That is truly an excellent idea, we would all be able to take a spur off the road tracks to power our homes free of charge
