Deutz MAH.

I collected a Deutz MAH yesterday and I wonder if anyone can tell me why it is fitted with 2 injectors. One is facing the piston in the front face of the head whereas the other is behind the push rods at the side. They are connected to a selector valve so you can choose which one to run. I have never seen anything like that before.

Knew I'd seen that set-up somewhere before - http://www.stationary-engine.net/for...t=29043&page=2

Not a bad archive for a "chat room".

Could it have been a College engine?

Looks like the German guy has answered the question. Well remembered Nick!!

Well done Nick. That explains everything. I'm missing the starting wick holder and the lever that sits up on the crankcase. I was told it was a 714 but I now doubt that if only the bigger engine has the twin injector set up. It's a nice solid engine....... I will get some pictures up soon.

Dad's Deutz (marked Otto) MAH, of probably about 8-10hp, also had the 2 injector system. We only ever used the main injector (in the front of cylinder head) for starting it, as at the time (30 years ago) we didn't know what the other injector was for. Our engine came from a trawler, it was a deck engine used on the net winch,

I wouldn't mind betting that this one came off a boat as it has been pressure tested by Lloyds in 1938. There is also some writing on the block but it is currently illegible.

Dan.

Edit; This engine has OTTO cast into its crankcase door.

Same as ours then.

Do you have any pictures of your one? All being well I hope to have a decent look at the fuel system tomorrow, I will try some fuel through it to see if it is working but even if the injectors creak I am not expecting to be able to start it as it is a bit down on compression.

Hi Hubert, unfortunately the name plates are missing, is it normally stamped elsewhere on the engine?

Dan.
